Salary to Hourly: How to Convert Annual Pay and Back
Comparing job offers is easier when you put every offer in the same unit. Use our salary to hourly calculator or the hourly to salary calculator, or follow the math below.
Salary to hourly
Divide your annual salary by the hours you work in a year. A standard full-time year has 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours.
Example: $60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85 per hour.
Hourly to salary
Multiply your hourly rate by hours per week and weeks per year.
Example: $25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000 per year.
Adjusting for unpaid time off
If you take two unpaid weeks, you work 50 weeks, or 2,000 hours. A $60,000 salary over 2,000 hours is $30.00 an hour, higher than the $28.85 above. Many salaried jobs include paid time off, so use the 52-week figure when your holidays are paid.
What these numbers leave out
The results are gross pay before tax. Benefits, bonuses, overtime and commuting costs can change which offer is really better, so compare those too.
